Bray Wyatt: A Unique and Special Wrestler

For the second time this year, I am writing a tribute to a wrestler, with whom I never expected to write. First Jay Briscoe, and now Bray Wyatt. This has been a brutal year, and just a day after Terry Funk as well.

Bray Wyatt, the son of Mike Rotunda, also known as IRS, came into the wrestling business as part of the FCW training program, which later became NXT. He earned his way to the main roster, first as Husky Harris, as part of the Nexus stable.

However, the gimmick that really caught fire was the first iteration of Bray Wyatt, and the Wyatt Family. Which included the late Brodie Lee who was Luke Harper then. That gimmick took the wrestling world by storm, in ways that I don't think anyone ever thought it would.

The creepy vibe entrance, with the cellphone lights of the crowd. The perfect music. The entire aura. We fans felt like we were watching the birth of the next generation of the Undertaker even though Bray himself said that wasn't what he wanted to be Unfortunately, that was not to be the case in part due to some... booking decisions. However, in this version of himself, he became a WWE champion.

Bray Wyatt has sometimes been criticized for not being the best in the ring, but I have always felt that is because some people didn't understand what he was trying to do. He wasn't trying to be a Bret Hart or a Dean Malenko, or Curt Henning he was trying to be something unique and special. Everything he did in wrestling, wasn't based on some amazing holds. It was based on his character. Everything had a purpose, whether he was the Eater of Worlds or the Fiend, it was all about his character. Bray Wyatt was bucking the trend by not wrestling matches intended to be technique classics, but rather extending his character in the ring. I feel, and will always feel that people did not understand that.

The next evolution was more of along the lines of two personalities. We had the Firefly Funhouse which showed a demonic horror parody of a kids' shows. We had the puppets, and the happy colors and smiled, but everything was just a little bit... wrong. As a character concept, it was brilliant.

The Firefly Funhouse match against John Cena at WrestleMania 36 was one of the most creative and unique matches in WWE history. It was a match that defied expectations and showed the true potential of Bray Wyatt's character.

The Wyatt Family faction was also one of the most unique and memorable factions in WWE history. The group consisted of Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, and later on, Braun Strowman. The Wyatt Family was a force to be reckoned with, and they terrorized the WWE for years.

Bray Wyatt's death is a huge loss for the wrestling world. He was a unique and special talent who had the potential to be one of the all-time greats. He will be missed by fans all over the world.

As of the time of writing, the cause of death is being reported by Fightful as a heart attack. This is a tragic way to lose such a young and talented wrestler.

My thoughts go out to Bray Wyatt's family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
