Fans of professional wrestling have been abuzz with rumors of Goldberg's return to the squared circle. Recent developments suggest that the former WWE and WCW World Heavyweight Champion is indeed planning a comeback - but not in the way you might expect.
According to a report from PWInsider Elite, Goldberg was recently in Los Angeles, California during WrestleMania 39 weekend. While there, he reportedly met with at least one international promoter to discuss the possibility of having a farewell show in Israel, as well as other countries.
Goldberg's contract with WWE expired at the end of 2022, leaving him a free agent. While there has been speculation that he could end up in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), PWInsider noted that they had not heard any discussions about a potential match between Goldberg and AEW star MJF.
In fact, Goldberg's plans for his return seem to be focused on a four-city farewell tour, which he plans to self-promote. The legendary wrestler is said to believe that the Goldberg character deserves a proper send-off, especially after WWE reportedly failed to honor a handshake agreement he had with Vince McMahon for a retirement match after his Universal Title clash with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.
Given the interest in Goldberg's free-agent status from Tony Khan, the CEO of AEW, some fans stillbelieve that he could end up in the rival promotion. Khan himself has confirmed that he is keeping an eye on Goldberg's situation, but it remains to be seen whether the wrestler will end up in AEW or not.
For now, it seems that Goldberg is focused on his farewell tour and giving the character he made famous a proper send-off. While it's certainly possible that he could have a match or two in AEW or elsewhere, the wrestler's main priority appears to be saying goodbye to his fans in a way that honors his legacy.
As always with wrestling rumors, it's important to take everything with a grain of salt until official announcements are made. However, Goldberg's recent activities certainly suggest that a return to the ring is in the works, and fans will no doubt be eagerly anticipating any further news on the subject.
